She fell in love with the practice and continued her studies with Pattabhi Jois until his death in 2009. Where Yoga Nidra and Reiki Meet

Friday, August 26, 7:00pm-8:15pm

Beginning with calming breath work to center our focus within, we will settle further into stillness with the practice of yoga nidra (enlightened conscious sleep). Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation inviting us to experience subtle states beneath the layers of our mental activity. From this open and receptive state, Melanie will share reiki energy to promote further relaxation and healing.

Note: This is not a movement class. We will be getting cozy, so bring socks, and wear your favorite comfy clothes!

What is Yoga Nidra?

Yoga Nidra is an ancient technique from India mentioned in the Upanishads and the Marabharata some 3,000-5,000 years ago.  The practice is one of complete relaxation as you enter the conscious state of mind that falls somewhere between sleeping and being awake. You’re “awake” the entire time you practice, but you’re not exactly alert. The goal is to enter a conscious sleep state and totally relax your brain, therefore releasing any unwanted tension in your body.  The practice is done lying down as you follow along to the guided meditations from the teacher.

How is it different than meditation?

Yoga Nidra is very similar to meditation, with one main difference. While traditional meditation is usually practiced in the ‘waking’ state drawing into a singe point of focus, Yoga Nidra occurs in the space between waking and dreaming, and explores the various dimensions of your being.

What are the Benefits?

Deep relaxation along with a reduced sense of anxiety. A 30-minute session can be equal to three to four hours of restorative sleep for the body. Studies show yoga nidra can have lasting effects on your mental state and can be an effective therapeutic tool for reducing anxiety and stress levels. In fact, the US Army employs nidra for both soldiers with PTSD and those with chronic pain. Yoga Nidra practice expands your capacity to handle stressful situations. Learning to be present and witness the moment without judgment,  leads to a greater awareness and your ability to identify and release the patterns in your life that no longer serve you. Yoga Nidra can be a great avenue for personal growth and evolution as it can lead to deep reflections that help you solve and resolve personal and interpersonal challenges as well as increase your sense of purpose in the world.

Go Inside: A 3-Day Yoga Workshop
with Kristin and Eddie

Yoga on the Inside is a method of yoga that was developed out of our many combined years of study and practice. During our classes, we ask our students to turn their attention inwards, bringing themselves into a more meditative state as they work with the body. We have found that the delicate balance between softness and strength is where the true experience of oneness, or yoga, resides. With a strong focus on structural alignment, this practice gives students the tools to take healing into their own hands, and watch as their efforts bring deep change to all layers of their beings– physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.

We honor the uniqueness of every individual, and believe in meeting our students wherever they are. Yoga is a lifelong journey and it starts by cultivating real self-love so we as students are not only willing, but inspired, to do the necessary work to heal ourselves, our generations, and our world.Through the alignment of the postures, Eddie and Kristin will guide you into meditation in action and relaxation. Individual instruction and guidance will be provided so that you will learn how best to practice yoga for your individual needs.

Winter Solstice Candlelight108

Tuesday, December 21st, 6-8:30p

Winter solstice marks the longest night and the shortest day.  It is seen as a time for turning inward, for reflection, and for rest.  But, it is also the start of our annual journey toward longer days and into the light.  Thus, it’s a time for celebration and honor. As we come together for this special practice, you will have the opportunity to acknowledge endings and clear space for growth in the coming year.

This challenging practice of 108 Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar) is a powerful experience that will stretch you and leave your practice forever changed.  You do not need to complete all 108, just come and share the energy.  These physical males will be done by candlelight celebrating the season and will be offered with multiple variations and breaks, creating accessibility for a wide range of practitioners.

This event is donation based (suggested $15-$30) with all proceeds benefitting local families this winter.

Bring someone you love and share this gift of yoga.

Caring for Your Spine Through Backbends and Inversions

Saturday, October 30th, noon – 3pm

In this monthly workshop, we will focus on backbends as well as inversions. Inversions are so important and often times overlooked in a modern 1 hour practice. There are so many benefits, including (but not limited to) improved circulation, increased energy, relaxation and so much more! Also overlooked in short practices are the powerful benefits of backbending. H.S Arun says that, “the healing of back pain comes from the backbends.” In a society where so many suffer from chronic back pain, it is more important than ever to focus on the back and how we can find relief!
