Part one of the Spire Sanctuary Workshop Series, titled “Respire,” emphasizes the significance of breath as a fundamental element in the practice of mindfulness and self-awareness. By harnessing the power of the breath through pranayama (the fourth limb of yoga focusing on the conscious and deliberate regulation of breathing) participants are invited to tap into their interoceptive awareness. Interoception, the ability to sense and interpret the internal signals of the body, is an essential aspect of experiencing and engaging with life. This deliberate focus on breath acts is a gateway to mindfulness, helping participants anchor themselves in the present moment leading to discovery and connection. Practicing pranayama in this setting is not just about controlling the breath and more about unlocking the profound connection between the breath, the mind, and the body. Here is where we can foster a sense of peace, balance, and awareness, laying the groundwork for deeper exploration in subsequent parts of the series.
